write again

kid lit and culinary musings of brenda winter hansen

Travel and reading were my first loves. As a kid, I hid among the library shelves with stacks of mysteries and fairy tales from everywhere and daydreamed of being in those magical, far away places.

I was born in Germany,  spent my childhood in Wisconsin, and received a BA at Oregon State University where I studied French and Photography. After nearly six years in Switzerland, I did a short stop on the East Coast, and am now  happily settled back in the Pacific Northwest. With an extensive writing community and mountains, forests, desert, and water never too far away, this is pretty much paradise for me.

The University of Washington’s certificate series on writing for children gave me a solid start and lots of guidance. When a picture book transformed into a novel, I realized that writing for teens was my future. When I’m not cat or kid wrangling, cooking or volunteering, I’m probably in my office writing a novel.

I currently serve as the Assistant Regional Advisor for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators of Western Washington (SCBWI-WWA) and also volunteer at 826 Seattle.
